Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the definition and impact of fatigue in the context of chronic illnesses, particularly sickle cell disease .
- Recognize the pathophysiology of sickle cell disease and how it contributes to fatigue, including hemolytic anemia and vaso-occlusive crises.
- Discuss biological and behavioral factors that potentially lead to or exacerbate fatigue in sickle cell disease, such as hypoxemia, inflammation, pain, stress, depression, and anxiety .
- Explore personal experiences and perspectives on managing fatigue through a roundtable discussion with Sickle Cell Warriors .
- Identify initial strategies and self-care practices utilized by Sickle Cell Warriors to manage fatigue.
